How can I send e-mail through Outlook when I am away from home?

How to Add a New E-mail Account to Your Existing Profile

1. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.

2. Click Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next.

Does your ISP/company provide web mail, then use that. Did you try seeing if your ISPs mail server will relay the message?

Does your ISP have web mail access as well as the smtp and pop3 you evidently are using with Outlook? If so, you can read your regular mail on the road as well as send mail, and nothing changes with addresses since you are using the mail program on your ISP's servers via the web instead of via Outlook to access the same folders. If you have Outlook set up to leave email on the server instead of deleting it after download to your local machine, ALL of your email in whatever folders you have will be available to you. I have Outlook set up to leave email on the ISP server and only delete a message when I delete it on my local machine. This webmail portal option is your best bet, and I think the easiest method. Ask your ISP if there is a web portal to your email if you don't know. I'll bet there IS a portal via the web from anywhere.



Are you using your own computer while on the road? If so, then there are programs you can run on your home machine which will allow you to take over your home machine by remote control. I use Laplink to do this when I am on the road. Symantec (Of Norton Utilities fame) also sells PC Remote, I think. I do not know of any free programs to do the remote control trick but there might be some free remote control programs out there. The key here is knowing your home computer IP address to establish the connection. Once you establish the connection, With the remote control arrangement, once you log in to your home computer, it is like you are sitting at your home keyboard, which in effect, you are. All of the programs running on your home machine will work as they did, with input and output being transferred to and from your home machine to and from the remote machine. People who telecommute use this kind of thing. I have a DSL connection with my LAN at home. It isn't the IP address of my home machine, but the IP address assigned by my ISP that I have to know. My machine on my home LAN is 192.168.0.5. This IP range, 192.168.xxx.xxx does not propagate, on purpose, so I need to get the IP address used by my ISP which as I write this is 206.124.150.56. This is the IP address of my gateway/DSL device as I write this entry. This IP address may change if I disconnect my DSL modem and reconnect later.. So, if I write this IP address down, and then use Laplink with the ISP assigned address, I can connect to my home machine and run it by remote control. Complicated to set up, but it works. The problem comes about when my home machine is logged off and when logged on again, is assigned an IP address from the pool my ISP has which is different. There are services out there, FreeDNS.com for example, which allow your machine to be associated with a chosen domain name and will update the IP address as it changes so simply using the domain name you choose will allow you to connect to your home PC. To do this IS complicated. Come to think on it, you could run your own mail server on your home machine and in conjunction with FreeDNS, could access your mail server using any email program. Again, complicated.



Go with the web portal from your ISP and set Outlook to leave email on the ISP mail server if it deletes on download to the local machine.
