I have U-verse, I had cable... I like U-verse a lot!

U-verse advantages...

Free DVR

Flickr Pictures on your TV

Free Wi-Fi with the U-verse gateway (Assuming you order internet)

DVR can record up to 4 shows at one (2 of them in HD) - This is the big U-verse advantage to me, no more conflicts.

Total Home DVR - Watch recorded shows from any set top box in your house. (Looks like it is available now in California, AT&T says it is in the process of rolling out to the other states.)

U-verse drawbacks...

4 streams max (2 of those HD) for your entire house. So you can only watch or record 4 separate channels at once (and only 2 of those can be in HD). Note this limit does not apply to watching recorded TV. This is mostly an issue for big familys that are likely to have 5 or more TVs going at once with different shows.

Longer install. While my install took only 2 hours or so, folks in older homes are blogging about 6 - 8 hour installations. If you order U-verse plan to be home all day on installation day. (Especially if your home is older.)

All in all, I think U-verse is great, unless you have a big family (or a lot of roommates) I recommend it.

I'm in the same boat as you. After talking to the sales rep, I was told that if your power goes out, so does your phone, unless you have the battery back up which is supposed to be good for 4 hours (and you can buy extra batteries). My father has had a double lung transplant a couple of years ago, and lately we have been frequent users of 911 for him. This is a situation (no phone in an outage) that may sway me against the Uverse bundle package.

Another thing I was told by other current customers is that there is a delay in changing channels on the TV. Not a huge issue, I guess, but could be annoying.

The pros are the price. Significantly less than cable and just a bit less than Dish or DirectTV. I also like that there are no contracts and that the price that you start out as, stays the same as long as you are a continued customer. (So they tell me.)

I have installation set up for 3 weeks from now. I can change my mind without any cost to me before that installation date. I may just do the internet and TV and just keep the land line the same for the phone.

I have been a long standing customer with AT&T and I am in the process of changing. After making changes to my services (limiting long distant calls to 200 minutes, turning in a receiver) to lower the monthly bill to $159 plus taxes that was good for one year. Two months later the bill jumps to the $180's and this is now the third month of the deal and the bill is $190. taxes of $20 to $40 dollars in taxes. What a "RIP OFF," there should be a law against such practice. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!
