What in the world does this mean? Basically my internet goes on and off repeatedly for about 2 minutes and then it turns off again. Then it turns back on. Off. About 2 minutes. The lights go all crazy.
I try reconnecting the modem and it only works periodically. If I reconnect it the internet only stays on a couple of minutes.
PLEASE HELP. I don't want to have to call comcast. Easy 10 points to whoever can lead me in the direction of solving this. Thank you!

You'll basically need to work through Comcast for this. Did your service go from "working" to "failing" or is this a new connection that never really worked? Looking at some of the forums (forums.comcast.com), looks like some of the Motorola modems have had problems over time. I ran into problems a while back and Comcast replaced mine with an Arris modem. When I first was hooked up with Comcast, I had line issues that required them to replace the connections at the road and the house, but they had a technician come to the house to check the readings on the line.

You may want to try contacting their tech support to see if they can do any troubleshooting over the phone. If you have one of their modems, they might be able to do some diagnostics remotely. My guess though is that you are having a modem or a line issue (if you had a lot of recent rain, perhaps a portion of the line is compromised). In either case you'll need to work with Comcast to resolve it.

** Edit **

Just to give you an idea of what should be pretty normal for the line readings, my downstream values are:

DCID Freq Power SNR Modulation Octets Correcteds Uncorrectables

Downstream 1 1 543.00 MHz 0.59 dBmV 36.17 dB 256QAM 17959020260 240254 481866

Downstream 2 4 561.00 MHz -0.25 dBmV 36.84 dB 256QAM 16664220848 220750 390095

Downstream 3 5 567.00 MHz 0.28 dBmV 37.64 dB 256QAM 15830472999 207536 352119

Downstream 4 6 573.00 MHz 0.71 dBmV 37.36 dB 256QAM 16346411006 206906 324251

Upstream values are:

UCID Freq Power Channel Type Symbol Rate Modulation

Upstream 1 3 24.80 MHz 52.00 dBmV DOCSIS1.x (TDMA) 2560 kSym/s 16QAM

Upstream 3 1 36.00 MHz ---- ---- ---- ----

That's actually a great question

I know you don't want to call Comcast but calling them is actually the best way to solve your problem. It's their service and they would know better than anyone here on how to fix it.

Reboot your router.
