Cookie is a piece of text stored on a user's computer by their web browser. A cookie can be used for authentication, storing site preferences, shopping cart contents, the identifier for a server-based session, or anything else that can be accomplished through storing text data.

Cleaning cookies can protect you and this will make your browser cleaner and probably run smoothly.

Clear Cookies from Safari:

1)From the Safari menu, click Empty Cache.

2) When asked Are you sure you want to empty the cache?, click Empty.

3) From the Safari menu, click Preferences.

4) From the Security dialog box, click Bookmarks.

5) Click Show Cookies.

6) From the Cookie dialog box, click to choose a cookie, and click Remove.

Alternatively, if you want to delete all cookies, click Remove All.

7) Click Done.

Cookies 'remember' which sites you have visited. To erase that 'memory', along the top go to Tools, then Internet Options, then Browsing History. No harm in deleting them.

to somewhat awnser your question, cookies are saved files, such as what you went on, or saved passwords. they are otherwise known as "browsing history". if you delete them you would need to log back on and save them all over again
