A friend of mine, who used to be on Yahoo for her e-mail, has stopped using it, because her in-box was getting overwhelmed by spam coming in at over 300 per day. So she's changed over to Googlemail, but spam is starting to build up there too. What is the procedure for blocking spam on Googlemail ?

(I am on Freeserve and used to get around 100 spam messages per day, but I've learnt how to block most of them and now they're coming in at a manageable 5 to 6 per day.)

Reporting is fairly easy but if you want to stop receiving spam, you should stay away from too much internet shopping, chat rooms, game rooms (as another user suggested), and handing out your ID to just anyone.

You never know who you are speaking with and there are some vindictive people online. You could be friends one minute, then the next thing you know, you are at each others throats. You wake up the next morning with hundreds of spam messages in your inbox.

I don't know if anyone can stop this, but it should be stopped.

Moral is: the net is loaded with spam and stupid people. The more you live on the net, the more you have to tolerate this kind of thing.

The link "Google" just gave you should help with the problem...

HOWEVER

I am always hearing of this from all of my online friends as well as people at work. Everyone who has spamming problems have these two things in common: They visit chat rooms on a regular basis and play online games frequently.

The more time you spend in chat rooms and gaming boards, the more susceptible you are to companies collecting e-mail addresses/ID's for spam.

The only problem I have ever had with spam (and I've been online for 7 years) was last year when some jerk I busted for fraud on 360 signed me up under my e-mail address for all kinds of advertising spammers across the net.

Seriously, other than that, I have never had spam. I have both free Yahoo and free Google, too. I NEVER go to chat rooms or game boards. They are crawling with scammers, spammers, bots, bullies, stalkers, and hackers.

Instead of chat rooms, seek out people who IM. Instead of game rooms, download the games themselves.

If you just HAVE to have chat rooms and game boards, then you just HAVE to deal with spam.

Something to think about. ;)

Everyday spammers find new routes to try to get into your email inbox. Spam consists of unwanted advertising, but some can transmit viruses, ad ware or spy ware on to your computer and cause problems. A lot of time is wasted sorting through the email received and deleting Spam email While it is not possible to totally eliminate Spam email, you can keep junk emails manageable. I have seen a brief study on spam in the following site. It is very useful .I recommend that you adopt the methods suggested there and get benifitted.

When you recieve spam in your Gmail inbox, just check the box next to the spam message and then press the button reading "REPORT SPAM." It will be flagged as spam and you will not recieve another e-mail from that sender. I pick up over 700 spam/day doing that, and now its just automated.
