what version of firefox do you use?
if you use version 3.6 or older, the developers of firefox messed up with the settings.
the block was supposed to be directed at the new firefox 4.0 beta, because it caused a lot of crashes on that version. but the devs made an error by making it blocked for version 3.6 or older. it is already fixed, but need time to reach every user. probably around 24 hours or so.
just wait for it.....
brw, if you don't know your FF version, just click "help" tab and choose "about mozilla firefox" on the browser.

Maybe:
Tools > Options > Content : "Warn me when sites try to install add-ons"
You can install the extensions locally:
Right-click the .xpi link and choose "Save Link as.." to save the file to your harddisk (e.g. My Documents or Desktop) and then drag the file into a Firefox or (Tools-> Add-ons->) Extensions Manager window or use File->Open File to install the extension.
Then you don't have to add them to the list of allowed sites.

I suggest you use 1-click youtube video download in the meantime than taking the risk.
