The message could not be sent because its size exceeded the server's limit. You can use the option, located in Tools | Accounts | Properties | Advanced, to break messages into smaller parts. Subject 'test', Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'smtp.live.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '552 5.3.4 Requested action aborted; You've reached the limit for how many messages you can send in 24 hours. Please save your message and send it later.', Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 552, Error Number: 0x800CCC6D

1. You are trying to send a file that is bigger than the mail system accepts. Compress the file (e.g. with 7-zip) if possible, or break it into multiple pieces if possible. If you can't get the file size down then you will have to find another way to transfer it.

2. The mail service apparently has a limit on how many messages you can send in a day. You will have to wait until tomorrow.

You can try getting another email account with another service that won't have these limits. Gmail is free, and you can send and receive messages using Outlook Express and Gmail, in addition to your Hotmail account.

There are a multitude of reasons why. It could be a corrupt outbox folder, or your providers SMTP server could be experiencing difficulty. Or, someone could have messed with our outgoing settings. Since you aren't getting a mail sent error I suspect corrupt folders. To rule out a corrupt outbox or sent folder CLOSE OUTLOOK EXPRESS and go to: C:\documents and settings\\Local Settings\application data\identities\{random characters}\microsoft\outlook express the folders with {random characters} which, there may only be one, contains the individual identities, if you are the only person with an identity there will only be one of these folders. In the outlook express folder you'll find your different mail folders. You're looking for outbox.dbx and sent items.dbx. It's a much better practice to rename these with a .old extension rather than delete them. But for all practical purposes we need to eliminate these two files. You will loose everything in your sent items folder, but since it's probably corrupt anyway you've already lost it. Re-open outlook express and see if it will send. If not then there is some sort of SMTP issue.
