Question:
Internet Explorer 7 - Where Are The Menus? And Why?

I've been using Internet Explorer 7 for some time, with the conclusion that replacing the unified text-based menu system with arbitrarily located pop-up menus under often cryptic buttons is cumbersome and distracting, at best.

Text-based menus, once heralded a major innovation, have evolved over decades, becoming increasingly more logical and consistent in the process. Replacing this with randomly situated pop-up menus under cryptic buttons is not an improvement.

Even worse, it appears the Vista Operating System, including programs running under it, will adopt a similar system of text-based menus eliminated in favor of haphazardly placed pop-up menus under oft obscure buttons.

I don't understand the logic of replacing an efficient system with a less efficient one. Perhaps someone else can explain. If I'm missing something, how is the new system more efficient? How will consumers truly benefit from the change? Or, if consumers don't benefit, why is Microsoft doing this?

The IE7 user interface is far less intuitive. The stop button is poorly placed and Favorites are not nearly as easy to use. If Vista is just as unintuitive (which appears likely), it is clearly not going to be an improvement - which doesn't benefit customers at all.

hit the alt key. there's the menus. to keep them there click on view, then toolbars, and check menu bar. the text menu will not stay there for good.

Why?because IE7 is the browser for vista. this is the new look they are shoving on us, and they don't car if you like it or not. How do i know this? I've been using it since the first beta. have written feedback on the new look as did many others, and that was thier official reply. this is the way it's going to look, this is the way Vista is going to look, get used to it.

Am I telling people not to download it? No, i highly reccomend that you do. IE 7's security is light years ahead of 6's. Spyware is no longer the huge problem it once was on my system anyway.

the new interface takes some getting used to, but it it's still a better and safer browser than 6 was, which is not saying much, because 6 was god awful.

They hate you, Dwight.

Go to the gray area, right click and check "Classic Menu"

Happy now?
