Text-based menus, once heralded a major innovation, have evolved over decades, becoming increasingly more logical and consistent in the process. Replacing this with randomly situated pop-up menus under cryptic buttons is not an improvement.
Even worse, it appears the Vista Operating System, including programs running under it, will adopt a similar system of text-based menus eliminated in favor of haphazardly placed pop-up menus under oft obscure buttons.
I don't understand the logic of replacing an efficient system with a less efficient one. Perhaps someone else can explain. If I'm missing something, how is the new system more efficient? How will consumers truly benefit from the change? Or, if consumers don't benefit, why is Microsoft doing this?
